Special Toll Roads
In addition to the general vignette requirement, several routes in Austria charge an additional toll. This special toll (Sondermaut) is payable independently of the vignette.

Austrian Traffic Rules
Urban: 50 km/h | Rural: 100 km/h | Motorway: 130 km/h. Variable limits possible via signage.
0.5 ‰ for car drivers. 0.1 ‰ for professional drivers, novice drivers, and vehicles over 7.5 t.
Winter tyres or snow chains are mandatory in wintry road conditions. No fixed season — situation-dependent.
Warning triangle, high-visibility vest, and first aid kit are legally required. Fire extinguisher recommended.
Limits and Exceptions
- Vehicles over 3.5 t gross weight do not need a vignette but require a GO-Box system.
- Vehicles with foreign licence plates are subject to the same vignette requirements as Austrian vehicles.
- A damaged or incorrectly affixed sticker vignette is considered invalid.
- The e-Vignette becomes valid 18 hours after online purchase (exception: purchase at physical sales points).
- Vignettes are non-transferable and non-refundable.
- When changing vehicles, a new e-Vignette must be purchased for the new licence plate.
- Trailers do not require a separate vignette.
- Emergency vehicles (police, fire brigade, ambulance) are exempt from the vignette requirement.
